Cars Broken into by Unknown Means

26th October 2014

It has been well documented by West Yorkshire Police on numerous occasions via social media that many vehicles are now been broken into by "unknown means".

What does this mean?

The victims all confirm they have locked their vehicles when leaving them, including activating the factory fitted dead locks, however on returning to their vehicles victims find the vehicle has been ransacked and items stolen. The problem is there are no physical signs of entry yet the doors are unlocked...

So how does this happen?

The commonly targeted vehicles "many Ford and Vauxhall in this type of crime" all have factory fitted remote central locking, many of these also have alarms which are operated through this same remote central locking key. On locking the vehicle via the remote control the alarm is also activated. The issue is that these factory fitted alarms can also be activated and de-activated by using the key in the drivers door barrel. The thieves simply use a tool similar to the one in the video "and readily available on the internet for less than £35" to simulate your key turning, unlocking your doors and easily turning off your vehicles factory fit alarm.

How do you beat them?

Our aftermarket alarm systems once installed are armed and disarmed via the same factory fitted remote central locking key. Locking the vehicle with the remote arms the alarm and unlocking the vehicle from the remote disarms the alarm, BUT only from the remote...!

Placing your key in the drivers door barrel or simulating this with the tool in the video will unlock the vehicle but the aftermarket alarm will remain armed and trigger instantly alerting those nearby to the break-in and send the would-be thieves running.

Common vehicles targeted for this type of crime are many from the vauxhall range including

  • Corsa
  • Meriva
  • Vectra
  • Astra

Also many ford models including:

  • Fiesta
  • Mondeo
  • Ranger
  • Transit
